Exploring China: A Children’s Guide to Chinese Culture

Professor Fu Siyi studied in Xiamen University from 1978-1985, with a BA in English Language Studies (1982) and a MA in English and American Literature (1985). She remained to teach at Xiamen University but was appointed to work for China Study Centre at Cardiff, the UK from 1991 to 1993. Meanwhile she took a postgraduate programme at Cardiff University and was awarded a MA degree in English Applied Linguistics (1993). In 2007, Prof Fu returned to Cardiff, working as the Academic Director for the Confucius Institute at Cardiff University (2007-2011), and later the Chinese Director of the University of Southampton ( 2012- 2014). Before Professor Fu was appointed to work in the UK, she was the Deputy Dean of the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures at Xiamen University (2003-2007), and a member of China’s National Higher Education Assessment Board (Foreign Language Division). While in the UK, Prof Fu was an International Baccalaureate (IB) Examiner and a Subject Assessor for Chinese Studies (2011- 2013). Over the years, Prof Fu has received several important awards for her excellent teaching and research, including the Top Ten Excellent Teacher Award from Xiamen University (2006)，Excellent Teacher Award from the Fujian Provincial Government (2007), and the Confucius Institute Individual Performance Excellent Award (2009) from the Office of Chinese Language Council International.
