This book is an autobiography dictated by Ms Yan Youyun-the widow of the famous diplomat Gu Weijun. Ms Yan was born of a large wealthy merchant family of the Republic of China. She was one of the first batch of female students from Fudan University and a well-known campus belle of the Shanghai Town. Her dictation includes a vivid and real description of the upper society 's life at that time. At the same time, both of her husbands were pioneers in Chinese diplomacy-Yang Guangsheng and Gu Weijun, therefore this book has a vivid and touching description of the stituation in Chinese diplomacy at the time, espeially the circumstances of Chinese diplomats in the Philippines during the Second World War.
