China's Economic Diplomacy

Stretching back to the Warring states period, China has deployed economic diplomacy with great skill. In modern times, China has taken advantage of its growing economic strength to exert more influence in the international arena. Keeping a low profile dominated foreign policy thinking during Hu Jintao’s time, but the global financial crisis in 2008 created an opportunity for the country to take a more high profile and assertive stance.
