Contemporary Chinese Fables (Chinese-English ed.)

The Chinese fable dated back to the Spring and autumn and Warring States Periods (BC 770-221), and a large number of remarkable pieces had been produced. The tradition continues unbroken, and contemporary writers still cast their reflections on life and reality into this form. Most fables in this collection are by well-known writers. The language is simple, yet the meaning is profound, and the warnings are allegorically and philosophically expressed. Stylistically they combine terseness, force, variety and fascination.
