Wang Chengxi was born in 1940 in Weichuan County, Henan Province and graduated from the Central Institute of Arts and Crafts in 1966. Now he is a member of the Chinese Artists Association, a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, and deputy chief manager of the Beijing Yanjing Calligraphy and Painting Studio.
Wang grew up in the fertile land on the banks of the Yellow River. He has experienced many hardships, but they
have served to add lustre to his basic qualities of sincerity and honesty, as well as his enthusiastic and unyielding pursuit of quality in art. In his childhood, Wang loved the traditional Chinese calligraphy and paintings. After graduation from the Central Institute of Arts and Crafts, he worked with talented modern teachers for more than thirty years, developing techniques of traditional Chinese painters.
Meanwhile he has made special efforts to learn the techniques of the Western tradition. He excels at painting flowers, especially plum blossoms. His beautiful works reveal a clear, elegant flavour and a vivid, fresh, vigorous style.
The album of Wang Chengxi's paintings that have been published in the past few years include the Collection of Plum Blossom Paintings by Wang Chengxi. Selected Paintings by Wang Chengxi., and A Hundred Plum Blossom Paintings.
