This book is intended to provide effective management of certain common illnesses with combined therapies of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine, each having its own advantages that the other does not have. In the past three decades, we have experimented and researched trying to combine these two different medicines together by taking from each the most effective approaches. In our research, we have found that many illnesses can be better or completely cured with combined therapies than with any methods of either of the two medicines alone. Certain illnesses, which can not be satisfactorily dealt with using Western medicine, can be effectively cured using traditional Chinese medicine, and vice versa, or some illnesses, which have no effective management in either Western medicine or traditional Chinese medicine, can be perfectly managed with the combined therapies. The book discusses the treatment of 43 diseases in its 14 chapters, most of which have been used as parts of a medical textbook for our students and students from other countries who came to learn traditional Chinese medicine in our university. The combined therapies described in the book are so widely practised in our hospitals that they have become a new medicine based on both Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine.
