Intermediate Spoken Chinese

This book is designed to improve the spoken Chinese of foreigners who already have a vocabulary of 1,000 to 1,500 Chinese characters. Each of 20 lessons has a text, a vocabulary list with Pinyin spelling and English equivalents, explanation and examples of idioms used in the text, and exercises.
This is a book of practical value that pays particular attention to sentence patterns and commonly used idiomatic expressions. It also has in mind the language used most often by visitors to China. The book needs about forty hours of teaching time to enable a student to enlarge his vocabulary by 700 characters, improve his listening and speaking abilities, and increase his conversational fluency.
