Wang Gai is famous in the history of Chinese painting, mainly at the age of thirty-five, when he was invited by Shen Yinbo, based on Ming Li Liufang ’s apprentice drafts, he edited and painted landscapes for the painting of Mustard Seed Garden. -'Mustard Garden Picture Book'. The first set of 5 volumes of landscapes, the woodblock color overprint in the eighteenth year of the Kangxi period of Qing Dynasty (1679), is known as Yilin; the second set is 4 spectrums of orchids, bamboo, plums and chrysanthemums, 8 volumes, painted by Zhu Sheng, Wang Zhi, Wang Jian Discuss with Brother Wang Achilles and Brother Wang Shao; three episodes for flowers, grass, insects, flowers, plants, birds and birds, 2 picture copybooks, 4 volumes, edited and painted by Wang Brothers. The second and third episodes were all overprinted in Kangxi's 40-year woodblock color. The four-episode character paintings are compiled in the Jiaqing Twenty-three Years (1818) Bookshop, which is based on the drawings and figures in Ding Gao's 'Picture Secrets' and 'The Legend of Evening Xiaotang'. In the Qing dynasty Guangxu Chaoxun (Jiaxing people) reprinted the addendum of 'The Mustard Seed Paintings', which was printed on the lithograph in Shanghai and spread widely. 王概在中国绘画史上有名,主要是三十五岁时曾应沈因伯之请,以明李流芳课徒画稿为基础,为《芥子园画传》编绘山水集,率先编绘中国画技法图谱——《芥子园画谱》。初集山水谱5卷,于清康熙十八年(1679)木版彩色套印,誉满艺林;二集为兰、竹、梅、菊4谱,8卷,由诸升、王质绘,王概与兄王蓍、弟王臬论订;三集为花卉、草虫及花木、禽鸟2谱,4卷,王氏兄弟编绘。二、三集均于康熙四十年木版彩色套印。四集人物画谱,系嘉庆二十三年(1818)书坊以丁皋《写真秘诀》,及《晚笑堂画传》等人物画谱中的图绘编成。清光绪间巢勋(嘉兴人)又将《芥子园画谱》重摹增编,在上海石版印行,流传益广。《芥子园画谱》介绍中国画基本法较为系统,虽间有舛误,但浅显明了,便于初学者参考。
