Ah Wanti, whose real name is Du Weilian, was born in Tongyang Zejiang in 1940. In 1959, he went to work in Xinjiang and lived there for thirty years. He has been working as an art teacher since then. After the Cultural Revolution, he graduated from Xinjiang Corps Educational College. He continued his study first in Nanjing Art College and afterwards in the advanced training class of Chinese paintings in Beijing Art College. He was a student of Chen Dayu, Liu Haisu, Zhang Wenjun and Shiqi. He successively held the posts of director of the art section of Xinjiang Corps Educational College, chairman of Xinjiang Corps Art Educational Association, and director and vice-professor of the Chinese painting section of Zhejiang Normal University. Now he is the vice dean and vice professor of the art department of Guangzhou Teacher's College, in 1993, he was invited to give lectures in Bethany College in West Virginia, U.S.A. and had his exhibitions in New York. American experts call him an outstanding painter of eastern humour.
