Ten Vernacular Tales from Ancient China

This book selected ten stories with various themes. In each section, the story comes first, a brief introduction second, and then the notes followed by a brief analysis. At the back of the book there are the following two appendices: 1 the system and development of Chinese short stories in the vernacular; 2 an index of vocabulary. To meet the needs of foreign students and readers, notes have been provided and difficult sentences are translated. Words that appear repeatedly are noted on their first appearance. Readers can look them up in the index when they appear later. Different words which have the same meaning are explained respectively.
