Neil McGregor is a British art historian who served as the curator of the British Museum from 2002 to 2015. Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1946. He studied German and French at the University of Oxford, and then studied philosophy at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, France, and then studied law at the University of Edinburgh. In 1972, he obtained a Scottish lawyer*. In 1973, he studied art history at the Cortod School of Art, the premier art history school in the UK. From 1975 to 1981, he taught the history of art and architecture at the University of Reading, England. From 1981 to 1987, he edited the English-language world's long-standing fine arts and decorative arts periodical 'Burlington Magazine'. From 1987 to 2002, he presided over the National Gallery of England. In 2010, he was awarded the Medal of Merit by the Queen of England. The main works include Witnessing Salvation: The Image of Christ in the Works of Art, the Birth of a Master's Work, British Paintings, and Shakespeare's Turbulent World.
