The essays on war by Sun Wu, a well-known strategist living in ancient China, have been published in English and Chinese on many occasions. Su Wu's ideas included in his essays are increasingly attracting the interest of readers at home and abroad who engage in academic research, Ian-gauge learning or business. However, some of the versions are not as convenient to readers as they should be. We often hear complaints from overseas Chinese about how they are disappointed when they find that they can learn only the form and meaning but not the pronunciation of Chinese characters. This novel book of Sun Wu's classic has come into being with the following features different from those in other versions: Both the original Chinese text and the English translation are presented so that English and Chinese students can study the text in reference to each language. Each Chinese character is marked with its mandarin pronunciation, with the help of the transcription beneath every Chinese character, so that a desire to read aloud the ancient Chinese military classic is satisfied.
