In the last years of Qing Dynasty, there is a young beautiful widow called Mudan who is an individualized person boldly rebelling against the traditional doctrine and pursuing the freedom to love and her dreamed man. She successively falls in love and lives together with her first love who is a married man in her hometown, her elder cousin in the capital city, a boxing coach at Tianqiao, the famous poet in Hangzhou, etc. Mudan's noteworthy conduct makes her a controversial figure. Depressive and agonising life of being a mistress finally makes her bored. After being saved when she meets with a mishap, she finally finds destination of her love.
