The Wonders of Tibet

Tibet is known to Tibetans as the 'region of snow' because of the multitude of snowcapped mountains which are regarded as symbols of sublimity and purity. Long ago the forefathers of the Tibetan people uncowed by the atrocious environment, began to tame yaks, raise highland barley, build living quarters and shape pottery. They threw rope bridges across deep valleys and manoeuvred animal-skin rafts on turbulent rivers. The Tibetan culture is one of the important constituent parts of civilization and a valuable contributor to humanity. Despite insufficient facilities, lack of creature comforts and the annoyance caused by lack of oxygen at high altitudes, Tibet still excites the interest and curiosity of tourists.
