Jiuhua Mountain rises in Chizhou Prefecture in the southern part of Anhui Province. To its north is the Yangtse River, to its south is the Huangshan Mountain and to its east is the Taiping Lake. Jiuhua Mountain is one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains in China, along with Wutai Mountain, Emei Mountain and Putuo Mountain. Ancient temples and stunning scenery attract both Buddhists and tourists to this mountain, and today it is a key tourist destination. Jiuhua Mountain is made up of peaks of various heights and hills of very different sizes. Precipices, stone caves, waterfalls and giant rocks of grotesque shapes are found its peaks. This bilingual (Chinese-English) book pays homage to a sanctuary, which the great Tang poet Li Bai described as 'exquisite' and the reformer of the Song dynasty Wang Anshi praised as 'imposing'. Many photographs of temples and ceremonies are included. Bilingual text.
