Work of Elena Manferdini

This book compiles Elena Manferdini's parametric design achievements from the past six years, divided into two volumes: LANDSCAPES and PORTRAITS. The former consists of images while the latter contains drawings, both generated through digital technologies. The images in the first volume are created from 3D scans of natural elements such as plant clusters and animal groups. Starting as three-dimensional point clouds, these scans are processed to form these images, presenting a fresh and tactile synthetic environment. The drawings in the second volume, on the other hand, are generated by writing code. Unlike traditional architectural drawings, they do not result from the subtraction process of translating three-dimensional objects to two-dimensional planes. Instead, they resemble scaled-down representations of buildings. These publications are the unique and profound outcome of Elena Manferdini's contemplation on the integration of digital technology and architectural design. They prompt us to reexamine the methods and theories of architectural representation under the conditions of digital technology. I believe that both Western and Chinese scholars will strongly respond to this book.
