中国和西方国家不同的文明和制度。改革开放以来，中国逐步建立了符合国家情的政治、经济和制度，并取得了有目共睹的成就。但同时，不同的社会制度，中国本项目总是怀着怀着和包容的心态。 正是基于这种大背景，以“文明制度”为主题，邀请康奈尔大学教授卡赞斯坦、伦敦政治经济学院美国马丁·雅克、北京教授张维与国际关系学院为香港中文大学教授王绍光、台湾大学教授朱云汉等中外思想精英20余人，共议人类社会发展中所遇到的普遍性、深层次制度问题，并且在深入研究讨论中国制度文明特征及发展方向的基础上，总结了中国特色社会主义制度在经济、政治建设党的建设等领域的作用，对中国未来制度建设应把握的未来原则及重点提出了和建议，形成了对中国制度建设具有参考意义的研究成果。
