At the 18th National People's Congress, it was proposed to promote the core socialist values of prosperity, democracy, civility and harmony, of freedom, equality, justice and the rule of law, and of patriotism, dedication, integrity and friendship. These 12 words prescribe the goal of values at the national level in prosperity, democracy, civility and harmony, at the social level in freedom, equality, justice and the rule of law, and at the individual level for citizens in patriotism, dedication, integrity and friendship. Deploying traditional Chinese culture to interpret socialist core values is a theoretical retrospection of social values, a source tracing of the Chinese spirit, a cultural return to the prudent tradition, an ideological inheritance to the national characteristics, and even a creative evolution of the splendid fine traditional Chinese culture toward modern needs. To explore these 12 core socialist values, we need to locate their theoretical origins, comb their cultural background lineages, and return to their historical wombs. In a word, the cultural perspective would be adopted in exploring the cultural mindset innate in the Chinese nation and in illustrating the modern spirit within the internal Chinese cultural context.
